Awankapak - (Continuing to Weave)

Awankapak explores Kichwa Futurisms through illustration + various artforms, imagining how ancestral knowledge and diaspora experiences shape visions of home and belonging. The project reinterprets traditional Kichwa textiles, clothing, and symbols in contemporary forms, creating work that bridges memory, identity, and future possibilities.

As a Kichwa Otavalo warmi (woman) in the diaspora, my work reclaims space for Indigenous identity and creativity across territories. Awankapak embodies the resilience, memory, and joy carried through generations, creating a platform where Kichwa and Indigenous people can see their stories reflected, celebrated, and honored.

Note: This project is currently in progress — updates and new works will be shared as the project develops.
